Green Keeper Update by Ben Grylewicz, (Turnpoint) First year of operation comes to an end
As the first year of operation comes to an end, I am proud to say that our course has come together in leaps and bounds. Greens have held through the rough months of summer in great shape and I hope they continue to build strength over the coming winter. Fairways have continued to strengthen due to the intense biological program we have introduced. This means we have been working with greener products more than synthetic fertilisers to help in reducing carbon pollution.
With winter approaching fast. Growth will soon come to a sudden halt, this means that ball marks on greens and divots on tees will become more evident and take longer for repair. I ask all golfers to pay as much attention to these issues over the next few months for the benefits of ball roll and grass uniformity.
The next few months will see a conscious effort towards the eradication of kikuyu in the greens surrounds. It has been a hard area to control as the products that need to be used can track easily into greens on peoples shoes and cause detrimental damage. Please be patient as this can be a long and tedious process. Other processes over the winter months will include bunker renovations, cart path edging and aerification on hard pan areas.
Happy golfing!

A proficient short game is the fastest way to reduce your handicap. Over 12 months of planning has now resulted in the first ever Whittle-Stegbauer Short Game School.
This will fast become Australia’s premier short game program.
It all started with a mutual respect for each other’s short games, since then they have been connected through coaching circles in Sydney and now after many discussions Glenn Whittle and Kurt Stegbauer have announced that they have officially joined forces and are about to stage their first ever Whittle-Stegbauer Short Game School.
Knowing how much passion we have for teaching the short game we believe these schools will fast become Australia’s premier short game school, and this is our goal.
By Darren
Another year is well underway and so far our free clinics for the Year 6 classes have been very well received. It is my first year at running the program and I must admit that I am thoroughly enjoying the experience.
In the last month I have been to Como, Yarrawarrah and Bonnet Bay Primary school's and they have been a great success with the children having heaps of fun and learning a few things about the great game of golf.
We already have more schools booked in and I will be visiting Como West, Lucas Heights and Kirrawee Primary Schools in the coming months. If you are interested in having us come to your school please email me at darren@theridgegolf.com.au.
The best thing about these clinics is they are absolutely free to your school, and it is a great introduction to the game we all enjoy so much. We again would like to thank the Tradies for their generous and continued support of the Sutherland Shire Golf Academy.

There is nothing worse than missing a putt from four feet, according to a recent survey of Ridge golfers. “That fear is very understandable” says Ridge resident golf psychologist Dr Mike Martin. “You feel you are close enough to the hole to sink the putt, but the chance of a miss is still very real. Four footers can mess with your head” Martin said.
So when over 30 golfers registered for the “Mental Art of Putting” workshop they were after answers to overcome this “choking point” in their game.
Martin took players through six specific steps to great putting.
He covered how to develop an ingrained, reliable stroke you can trust, how to stay positive on every putt by choosing an “I-Can-Make-Everything” attitude, five specific putting confidence strategies and much more.
Did players get what they came for, according to Ridge golfer Hayden Fox, they did “I got to learn drills which I can apply every time I putt to be more confident.” Similarly, Howard Reus said “It gave me strategies to adopt a positive and confident approach to putting.”
Players who missed the “Mental Art of Putting” clinic can download a putting analysis tool at http://www.mentalgolfer.com/blog
