NSW / ACT Teaching Pro of The Year

Congratulations to Kurt Stegbauer who won the prestigious 2009 NSW / ACT PGA teacher of the year award, ahead of six others, and received it from PGA legend Alex Mercer. The Award was presented at the annual NSW PGA Awards night held at Elanora Golf club on 28th January 2010.

Kurt StegbauerKurt was recognised for his contribution to junior golf and player development in receiving this award.

"It's a great honour to receive this award", Kurt said. "It's a nice feeling being in the winners circle again, especially not having played any tournament golf since 1997. I love it an enjoy developing the game"

"Coming from a playing background I know how important the game was to me and I know that when I went for a golf lesson my expectations were very high of that person teaching me". Kurt says he gets a buzz out of seeing his pupils lower their handicap.

"The satisfaction is seeing golfers improve. I don't care if it's a pro or the average punter off 45 " Kurt says.

Kurt is available for lessons from
Tuesday to Saturday.

Oberon Junior Trip

Oberon TripOn the 28th of Feb the SSGA took a group of  17 juniors and 11 parents away for a two day trip to Oberon Golf club.

It was our second trip with a similar group traveling their last year. For those of you who don't know where Oberon is, it is about a two and a half hour drive up over the blue mountains heading towards Jenloan caves.

After a refreshments break in Katoomba we eventually arrived at Oberon where we were greeted by a warm day.

The first day was an ambrose format where the juniors had an opportunity to play the course while also getting used to the hilly mountain conditions. The course over looks the beautiful Oberon dam, and with the recent rain was in good condition, being a country course with only one green keeper the course was very well presented.

After the first day many of us realised how challenging it can be playing a course built on the side of a hill. However all seemed to have a good time and enjoyed some of the holes that were down hill and allowed us to hit the long ball. After our round we had a barbeque and then headed back to the Big Trout Motor Inn  for some cricket, hand ball and ice creams.

Day 2 was a Trainee Pro Am where all the players had the joy of playing with a Trainee golf pro. It also was the city versus country challenge, where our team being the city slickers were defending the title. A few of our players managed to finish amongst the winners including Kane Manning, Linton Speechley, Brendan Mchugh and Dimi Dimitrovski. Unfortunately the Oberon junior team came out in front based on an aggregate total.

After the presentation we made our way back to Sydney.

I would like to thank Glenn Whittle and all the parents who drove for their time and support. All going well we will head back up to Oberon next year for some more country hospitality.

Most golfers understand that golf is a MENTAL game

Sports PsychologyThe Ridge would like to welcome Dr Mike Martin to our team as our resident Sports Psychologist

Mike has a worked with Olympic Gold Medallists and World Champions as Head of Performance Psychology at the Australian Institute of Sport.  He also has a long history in golf and has been to Mike Martinthe game’s most sacred sites including the British Open and Augusta National.

And while he’s worked with some of golf’s superstars, including a US Open winner, Mike also works with a number of middle and low handicappers who are serious about their game.  He says “it takes so long to conquer golf’s mental game by trial-and-error, but you can easily build confidence, focus and playing consistency with simple mental game coaching.

As a way of meeting and keeping in touch with golfers at the Ridge, Mike is running a number of FREE Mental Art of Putting clinics.  The clinic will help you develop a great putting attitude and conquer your fears on the green.
