The Ridge Golf History and Design
Course History and Design
The Ridge Golf Course, was officially opened by Sutherland Shire Mayor Lorraine Kelly and the NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Climate Change and the Environment, Carmel Tebbutt on 14 August 2009. The golf course is built on a former waste disposal site which has been treated, filled and recontoured and compacted with 850,000 tonnes of clean fill placed over the site.
The fees from tipping have meant council has developed its sporting facilities at the Ridge at no cost to ratepayers. The course was designed by Australian designer and golfer, James Wilcher, of Golf by Design, who has designed courses throughout Australia and internationally.
The course is set in an attractive natural bushland setting and there are a number of water hazards created by the on-course watering system and dam which adds to the challenge to players. It also sits on top of a Ridge with attractive distant views of the Sydney CBD.
