Winning Thinking - Sport Psychology
Golf is 90% a mental game - what are you
doing about it?
By Dr Michael Martin - Head Coach of Mental Game Coaching
Most golfers understand that golf is a MENTAL game, even if you a darn-near perfect swing.
You know that frustration and tension you feel after a bad hole, plus the self-doubt which also creeps into your game. That inconsistency, nervousness and worry about what others will think when you fall apart under pressure. That’s all part of the mental game that The Ridge’s new golf psychologist, Dr Mike Martin, deals with everyday.
Mike has a worked with Olympic Gold Medallists and World Champions as Head of Performance Psychology at the Australian Institute of Sport. He also has a long history in golf and has been to the game’s most sacred sites including the British Open and Augusta National.
And while he’s worked with some of golf’s superstars, including a US Open winner, Mike also works with a number of middle and low handicappers who are serious about their game. He says “it takes so long to conquer golf’s mental game by trial-and-error, but you can easily build confidence, focus and playing consistency with simple mental game coaching.
